What is Fyre & Wylde?
Here at Fyre & Wylde, we are a woodland based not-for-profit. A social enterprise set within Fowlers Hill Wood in Cabus, just outside of Garstang, Lancashire.
Our purpose is to educate and reconnect people with nature through traditional woodland practices, biodiversity conservation, and hands-on learning with a strong passion for sustainable woodland management. We focus on sustainability, wildlife protection, and empowering people through volunteer-led programs.
Our products and services include sustainable charcoal production, green woodworking crafts, community workshops, forest-based learning experiences, and an outdoor low-impact event space.
Our goal is to be able to reconnect people with nature, themselves, and others – helping to increase our communities’ resilience. We’re building a community support network for those interested in helping nature and others while supporting their mental health, physical health, climate change, and bio-diversity loss.
Our Aims and Objectives
Our mission is to nurture the health and long-term sustainability of Fowlers Hill Wood, creating a thriving, biodiverse woodland that benefits both the environment and the local community.
Through sustainable practices, education, and active engagement, we aim to protect and enhance our natural heritage while fostering deeper connections between people and nature.
- Sustainable Woodland Management
Our primary goal is to ensure the long-term health of Fowlers Hill Wood through sustainable woodland management practices. This includes planting and caring for native trees, promoting biodiversity, carcoal production, horse logging and managing the woodland to support both environmental health and community enjoyment. Our efforts focus on creating a resilient, thriving woodland for the benefit of wildlife and local community groups alike.
- Biodiversity Conservation and Habitat Restoration
We are dedicated to restoring and enhancing the biodiversity of Fowlers Hill Wood by managing invasive species, creating wildlife corridors, and establishing natural habitats for a wide range of plants and animals. This restoration ensures a balanced ecosystem that supports long-term environmental health and provides a space for future generations to enjoy.
- Woodland Health and Habitat Maintenance
Maintaining a healthy woodland is essential for the well-being of both the ecosystem and the community. We work to keep the woodland free from overgrowth, hazardous debris, and invasive species, creating safe, accessible spaces for enjoyment, education, and connection with nature. We prioritise the health of both the land and the people who visit it.
- Soil and Water Management
We focus on maintaining healthy soil and water systems to ensure natural water flows are preserved and soil fertility is enhanced. These efforts support the vitality of the woodland, the local wildlife, and the broader ecosystem, helping to build resilience in the face of environmental challenges and to highlight the importance of soil health, compost and home composting.
- Monitoring and Protecting Biodiversity
Active monitoring is a key part of our mission. By tracking the health of the woodland’s biodiversity—such as the growth of trees, pests and diseases and looking at the ecological balance—we can ensure that Fowlers Hill Wood remains a thriving environment. This monitoring supports the region’s broader conservation efforts and helps protect local species and habitats.
- Community Education and Engagement
We believe in the power of community and seek to engage local residents in environmental stewardship. Through volunteering, educational programs, workshops, and events, we raise awareness about the importance of woodland conservation, sustainable living, and the crucial role the community plays in protecting the environment. We aim to inspire a shared responsibility for the care of Fowlers Hill Wood and surrounding natural landscape.
- Climate Change Mitigation
Fowlers Hill Wood is an important part of the solution to climate change. By storing carbon and improving the ecosystem’s resilience, the woodland plays a vital role in combating environmental change. Through sustainable woodland management, we aim to increase the woodland’s capacity to store carbon, support wildlife, and contribute to the global fight against climate change.
- Building Community Connections and Partnerships
At Fyre & Wylde, we believe in the strength of community collaboration. We work to build connections between local residents, businesses, schools, and organisations, creating a network of support for the ongoing care of our natural habitats and community. Through partnerships, we want to foster a collective commitment to environmental sustainability and ensure the care of our natural world for future generations.

Founding Fyre & Wylde
Fyre & Wylde was founded by Alicia, Adam, and Jessica. Three long-time friends united by a shared love of nature, community, and creating positive change.
Alicia and Jessica have been best friends since high school, drawn together by a love of the outdoors. Their journey led them to the Air Cadets, where they met Adam.
Over the years, their bond deepened and in 2023, Alicia and Adam celebrated their relationship with a hand fasting ceremony at Fowler’s Hill Wood, the very woodland where Fyre & Wylde would eventually take root.
The story of Fyre & Wylde began even earlier, in 2018, when Adam and Alicia decided to leave behind their careers to travel full-time across the UK and Europe, volunteering at different communities, projects and events.
Their travels eventually led them to the Centre for Alternative Technology in mid-Wales, where they spent nearly 5 years living, learning, and working among inspiring people committed to sustainability and conservation. Their time in Wales reconnected them with a sense of purpose, belonging, and community; values that now form the heart of Fyre & Wylde.
Meanwhile, back home on the Fylde Coast, Adam’s parents, Keith and Dawn, were searching for a long-held family dream: a small piece of woodland to call their own. When they discovered a beautiful woodland and meadow near Cabus, it felt like everything had fallen into place. What began as a family dream is now a living, breathing community project, one we feel is too good to keep to ourselves.
We’re not here to build a business empire. Our hope is simple: to share this space, the skills we’ve learnt, and the deep sense of belonging that nature can offer with as many people as possible.
Meet the Team
Together, we bring a wide range of skills, experience, and passion to Fyre & Wylde:
Jessica
Jessica brings a strong background in business leadership, strategic growth, and operational efficiency, having worked across multiple sectors over the last decade. Currently completing a Master’s in Business at Manchester Metropolitan University, she combines practical business knowledge with a passion for creating meaningful, sustainable projects.
While her roots are in corporate management, Jessica’s heart has always been drawn to nature. One of her current passions is using virtual reality to help both children and adults connect more deeply with the natural world, bridging technology and wild spaces in innovative ways.
As a mum to an adventurous 9 year-old, Jessica has seen firsthand the magic that outdoor experiences can spark in young people. Her belief in making woodland spaces inclusive, welcoming, and accessible to all is at the core of what she brings to Fyre & Wylde, ensuring that our dreams are not only heartfelt but also have strong foundations to grow from.
Alicia
Alicia comes from a background in aerospace engineering, sustainable food production, and environmental engagement. After several years as an aircraft fitter, STEM ambassador, and workplace trainer, she shifted her focus towards sustainability and conservation, spending the last 4 years volunteering and working at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.
There, she developed her hands-on experience in wildlife-friendly gardening, growing food sustainably, and sustainable and renewable energy systems; igniting an even deeper passion for reconnecting people with the natural world.
Known for her boundless enthusiasm and love for all creatures great and small, Alicia is often found hugging trees, crouched down inspecting insects, smelling the flowers or excitedly pointing out a newly discovered mushroom.
She believes that every bug, bloom, and bird has a story worth noticing and her infectious joy in the little things is central to how she teaches, inspires, and brings others closer to nature.
Adam
Adam is a qualified chainsaw operator and woodsman with experience in sustainable woodland management. He has worked across both commercial forestry and conservation projects, holding specialist training in chainsaw use, brush cutting, forestry first aid, and tractor driving.
Passionate about all aspects of the natural world, Adam has a particular love for the often unnoticed and under appreciated ecosystems, the microbial worlds in the soil, the quiet networks of fungi, the slow-growing mosses, and the intricate systems that sustain the health of the woodland from the ground up.
Whether managing woodland conservation tasks or hiking through the mountains, Adam’s deep respect for the hidden workings of nature inspires his approach to sustainable woodland stewardship and education.
